Ward Lake #744

The Ward Lake Trail #744 was built to serve as a route around Ward Lake for hikers and for people fishing. It also serves as an alternate route for people between the upper and lower campground who do not want to walk on the road and do not mind a longer walk. This trail was constructed with all types and ages of hikers in mind. Ward Lake is one of the larger and deeper lakes on the Mesa and is routinely stocked with trout by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The Ward Lake Trail travels through open meadows and spruce/fir stands.

Directions

EASTERN ACCESS:

Travel approximately 23 miles south on Hwy 65 from Mesa, or north for approximately 16 miles from Cedaredge to the intersection with Trickel Park Road, FSR #121. Turn east on the Trickle Park Road and travel for approximately 0.3 mile to Ward Lake Campground entrance. The Eastern Trailhead is approximately 20 yards after entering the campground off of the left (east) side of the entrance road.

WESTERN ACCESS:

Traveling for approximately 23 miles south on Hwy 65 from Mesa, or north approximately 16 miles Cedaredge to the junction with Trickel Park Road, FSR #121. Turn east on Trickle Park Road and travel approximately 0.3 mile until reaching the Ward Lake Campground entrance. Follow the graveled road through both the upper and the lower campground to the far (south) end of the lower campground. Walk across the Ward Lake Dam to the Ward Lake Trailhead.
