Woods Lake #406

The Woods Lake Trail #406 begins at the Woods Lake Trailhead near the Woods Lake Campground and ends at the Uncompahgre and San Juan National Forest boundary. The trail heads south and climbs through spruce and fir forest. After about 1 mile, it crosses into the Lizard Head Wilderness, where Wilderness Regulations apply.  At about mile 3, the trail intersects with the Elk Creek Trail #407 above tree line where one can see western views of Lone Cone Peak and the La Sal Mountains. The combination of the Elk Creek Trail, Wilson Mesa Trail, and Woods Lake Trail make about a 9 mile loop. The Woods Lake Trail ultimately climbs steeply over a saddle and intersects with the Navajo Lake Trail #635 on the San Juan National Forest. It is then a short hike down to Navajo Lake where there are opportunities for dispersed camping.
