Location of Origin: 33miles south of Alpine, AZ Start Dates: July 15 & 25, 2025
Size: 408 combined acres Percent Contained: 0%
Cause: Lightning Fuels: Mixed conifer, grass, snags
Resources Assigned: 2 Hand Crews, 3 Engines, 2 Water tender, 2 Dozers
Highlights: Two separate fires are burning within 6 miles of each other on the southern Alpine Ranger District. The Lookout Fire is now approximately 300 acres and located off Forest Road (FR) 25P just west of Reno Lookout Tower. The Clear Cut Fire is now approximately 108 acres and located off FR25 north of the Lookout Fire and West of Hannagan Meadow near Lost Lake. Both incidents are within the Wallow Footprint and are being addressed for full suppression.
Operations: Incoming monsoonal storms aided and hindered fire crews with suppression efforts. Incoming moisture aided in natural suppression, however due to cloud-to-ground lightning from the storm systems, crews had to briefly stand down while storms passed through. The Lookout incident: A recon flight for mapping showed that the fire was approximately 300 acres. Crews engaged to mitigate hazardous snags to lower exposure to firefighter safety. The Clear Cut Incident: Crews made good progress utilizing dozers to construct control lines. Ground crews aided heavy equipment by following behind and cleaning up and securing control lines. During early morning operations ground crews received air support from the nearby Draw Incident. Two water tenders were staged at Hannagan Meadow Helispot to support these air operations.
Safety: Inclement weather poses a threat to firefighters and public safety. The public is asked to use caution when traveling portions of FR24 and FR25 as smoke may impact visibility. Please yield to fire traffic, and avoid areas near Reno Look and west of Hannagan Meadows. Hannagan Meadow Lodge has been made aware of fires near their resort.
Closures: The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is in the process of issuing a partial closure order for parts of the National Forest lands along FR24 from FR26 to FR576.
Smoke: Smoke from both incidents may be visible from Hwy 191 and in the surrounding areas and will be heavier in the evenings and mornings as it settles into the lower elevations. Go to fire.airnow.gov/ to see the latest smoke conditions in your community.
Weather: Today’s forecast calls for the possibility of thunderstorms with a high of 78 degrees and wind gusts to 5 mph. Chance of gusty and erratic winds following storms.
