The Boise National Forest has begun salvage logging along West Mountain and has implemented temporary road closures to ensure public safety during operations.

The Hurd-Wyck Timber Sale, located 5 mi. west of Cascade, will include salvage logging within a previously awarded timber sale and additional roadside salvage work. National Forest System Road (NFSR) 435B is closed through Aug. 28. NFSR 435 (Anderson Creek Road) will remain open, but occasional delays may occur as crews fell trees in the vicinity.

The French Toast Salvage Timber Sale, located 5 mi. south of Cascade, will be removing fire weakened trees along the roadside. NFSR 404G and NFSR 404 between its intersection with 404G and northward to the National Forest boundary will both be closed through July 10.

Maps and other details of these road closures can be found on the Boise National Forest’s Alerts webpage

These roadside salvage logging efforts will both increase public safety by removing trees likely to be a falling hazard on the roads and recover the economic value of the fire damaged timber.

Contact the Cascade Ranger District for more information at 208-382-7400.
