2025 ROAD CONSTRUCTION DELAYS
The Salmon-Challis National Forest maintains an extensive network of roads on the Forest. In 2025, the mobile rock crusher, which works throughout the Intermountain Region, will be working on the Salmon-Challis National Forest in May and June.
Starting May 4, 2025, for approximately two weeks, the mobile rock crusher and other road maintenance equipment will be working on the lower seven (7) miles of the Deep Creek Road #101 on the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District. Work will include grinding, shaping, and compacting the road surface. Generally, the road is wide enough for traffic to pass the operating equipment. Delays should be minimal, expect no more than 5 to 15 minutes while the equipment is working the narrower portions of the road.
During the last week of May or first week of June, the mobile rock crusher will be working the upper section of the Fourth of July Creek Road #071 on the North Fork Ranger District. Visitors should expect minimal delays of 5 to 15 minutes when the equipment is working on the narrower portions of the road.
During the first or second week of June, the mobile rock crusher will be working on the Sleeping Deer Road #086 from just above the private land to the road to Twin Peaks Lookout #090 on the Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District. Visitors should expect minimal delays of 5 to 15 minutes when the equipment is working on the narrower portions of the road.
Contract work on the Stanley-Landmark Road #579, Boundary Creek Road #568, and Seafoam Road #008 on the Middle Fork Ranger District is expected to start in early June. Surface rock will be placed on the road during this time. Additional information will be shared as timelines are confirmed.
Work continues on the Stoddard Bridge adjacent to the Salmon River Road #030, 39 miles west of North Fork, Idaho on the North Fork Ranger District. The Salmon River Road continues to be single lane through the project site and at the crane tower. The speed limit is 15 mph in this area during the 2025 construction season. Closures may be announced throughout the construction season as timelines are confirmed.
Road users in the areas listed above should use caution around the road maintenance equipment. Please be patient, reduce speeds, and give the operators and their equipment plenty of space. Thank you for your cooperation.
