    Garnet Fire Closure

     

    Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Sierra National Forest.  This Order is effective from October 21, 2025, through November 2, 2025. 

     

    1. Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the Garnet Fire Closure Area, as shown on Exhibit A and described in Exhibit B. 

    36 C.F.R. § 261.52(e).

     

    1. Being on any National Forest System roads within the Garnet Fire Closure Area, as shown on Exhibit A and described in Exhibit B. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(e).

     

    1. Being on any National Forest System trails within the Garnet Fire Closure Area, as shown on Exhibit A and described in Exhibit B. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a).

     

    Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

     

    1. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

     

    1. Persons with a Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.

     

    1. Employees and contractors of utility companies with special use authorization to the extent necessary to conduct operations and maintenance, vegetation management, and timber work, provided the work activity is within acceptable Project Activity Levels and within the coordination of the Incident Command Team.

     

    These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.

     

    A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.  16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.

    The boundary of the Garnet Fire Closure begins at the intersection of Forest Road No. 11S12 and Forest Road No. 12S01 at the Kings River Bailey bridge, then continues north along the west side of Forest Road No. 11S12 to its intersection with Forest Service Road No. 11S02, then continues west along the south side of Forest Service Road No. 11S02 to its intersection with Forest Service Road No. 10S69, then continues north along the west side of Forest Road No. 10S69 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 11S61, then continues north along the west side of Forest Road No. 11S61 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 10S69, then continues north along the west side of Forest Road No. 10S69 to its intersection with Dinkey Creek Road, then continues northeast along the east side of Dinkey Creek Road to its intersection with Forest Road No. 11S40 (McKinley Grove Road), then continues east along the south side of 11S40 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 10S13L, the continues east along the south side of Forest Road No. 10S13L to its intersection with Forest Road No. 10S13, then continues west, then north, then east along the south side of Forest Road No. 10S13 to its intersection with Snow Corral Creek, then continues south along the west side of Snow Corral Creek to its intersection with Forest Road No. 11S40 (McKinley Grove Road), then continues east along north side of Forest Road No. 11S40 to its intersection with Rancheria Creek, then continues east along the north side of Rancheria Creek to its intersection with the boundary line of the John Muir Wilderness, then continues south along the boundary line of the John Muir Wilderness to its intersection of the Kings River Special Management Area, then continues southwest along the boundary line of the Kings River Special Management Area to its intersection with Spring Creek, then continues south along the west side of Spring Creek to its intersection with the Kings River National Recreation Trail, then continues west along the south side of the Kings River National Recreation Trail to its intersection with Forest Road No. 12S01, then continues west along the north side of Forest Road No. 12S01 back to the starting point at the intersection of Forest Road No. 11S12 and Forest Road No. 12S01 at the Kings River Bailey bridge.
