Sierra National Forest (SNF) fire crews continue to direct control lines around the fire. The steep rocky terrain is preventing the use of bulldozers in several areas making initial attack much more challenging. Triple-digit heat has also been a factor, creating an additional safety hazard for firefighters.
The Sierra National Forest Garnet Fire is currently working with local cooperators. As of 4 p.m., August 25th, a Complex Incident Management Team, CIMT10 will assume command of the fire.
SNF Fire Crews continue to direct control line around the fire. Steep terrain is preventing the use of bulldozers in several areas making initial attack more difficult. Triple-digit heat may also become a factor, creating an additional safety hazard for firefighters.
Firefighters are assisting with the incident. Crews are working aggressively using handlines, bulldozers and air attack vehicles to suppress the Garnet Fire, including four fixed-wing and three rotor-wing aircraft.
Resources: There are 150 personnel assigned. Two Type 2 and 1 Type 1 helicopters are also assigned.
Fire Activity: Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits with observed fire behavior exhibiting moderate to rapid rates of spread. The extreme temperatures combined with rugged terrain/topography combine to make the fire resistant to control measures, a combination of aviation resources and aggressive ground operations will be required to keep the fire from spreading more.
Fire Operations: The fire is at 0 percent containment.
