Colville, Wash. (August 12, 2022)– Josh White has been named as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Colville National Forest in northeastern Washington.

White served in the US Army infantry from 1994 to 2002. After serving in the Army, Josh attended Boise State University where he earned a B.S. in Ecology and a master’s degree in Plant Community Ecology. Josh first worked for the Forest Service as an Invasive Species Coordinator in 2009. He then served on the Wallowa Whitman National Forest as a rangeland management specialist, and later as a Supervisory Natural Resource Management Specialist. For the past 6 ½ years, White has served as the Three Rivers District Ranger on the Colville National Forest.

While at Three Rivers, Josh has established himself as an agency leader. White led the planning and implementation of two, first of their kind, A-Z stewardship projects. He also oversaw the first good neighbor timber sale in the state of Washington. He is a representative on the Regional Line Officer Team for fire and temporarily served as the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Williamette National Forest from February to June of 2021. Josh was individually recognized when Colville National Forest was honored with the Chief’s and Undersecretary’s awards for setting a national standard for increased pace and scale of work to improve forest conditions.

“We’re excited to have Josh at headquarters, where his skills will be utilized across the forest, and to a larger extent, the region,” said Forest Supervisor Rodney Smoldon. “Josh will share in the overall leadership of forest business and his knowledge of our forest programs should make for a smooth transition.”

“For more than 6 ½ years, I’ve had the extreme honor to serve our community as the District Ranger in Kettle Falls. I have come to regard Northeast Washington as my home, and I have fallen in love with the beauty of the area and the passion of the people. I am proud and excited for the opportunity to continue working in this wonderful community and I look forward to more opportunities where we can enhance the vision of shared forest stewardship that has been so important to everyone the relies on the Colville National Forest,” White said.

White and his wife Stephanie have been married for 28 years. They live in Colville, and love living in a community where they can create lasting relationships and have an opportunity to give back. They have one adult son, Kaleb, who lives in Spokane. White is scheduled to start his new position on September 11, 2022.
