The Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program, or CFLRP, brings communities, partners, and the Forest Service together to restore forest health. Over a 10-year funding period with possible extension, projects build strong partnerships and strengthen local communities.  Each project also completes 15 years of monitoring to measure results and adapt as needed.

Northeast Washington Forest Vision 2020 CFLRP

The Northeast Washington Forest Vision 2020 project on the Colville National Forest began in 2012 and was extended in 2022. The project area now covers about 916,000 acres managed by many groups, including the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, Confederated Tribes of the Colville, and others.

The project’s main goal is to improve forest health and better prepare for disturbances like wildfires. To do this, the project works on restoring forests and habitats, reducing hazardous fuels, promoting the use of small trees and woody material, and lowering the cost of forest treatments and wildfire response.

Besides doing work on the ground—such as treatments and infrastructure improvements that support local businesses—the project also includes monitoring. All CFLRP projects use a shared set of 13 monitoring questions, plus supplemental questions specific to each project. This monitoring looks at things like fire, vegetation, wildlife, sensitive plants, water, and social and economic effects.
