Growden Heritage Site

Camp Growden, known as “Little America” because it housed Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) enrollees from around the country, was built in the 1930s west of Kettle Falls on the Colville National Forest. CCC workers built roads, trails, camps, and buildings, many of which are still in use today. It was one of the largest CCC camps in the area. The site included a recreational dam, which produced an 80-acre lake that was popular with forest visitors. In 2009, the dam was removed because it had outlasted its usefulness and to reduce safety concerns .

Today, the heritage site is a popular stopping point for forest visitors who want to stretch their legs and enjoy the beauty of Sherman Creek.
