Nile Lake

 

Nile Lake is 22.8 acre 28’ deep, serene lake surrounded by beautiful wetlands and a beautiful forested mountainside opposite the boat launch. Easy access from the highway.  It has been restricted to fly fishing only access for several years. There are no resorts or facilities of any kind on Nile Lake.

History: Several small lakes, AKA Little Pend Oreille Lakes bear the names of the original survey crew. Lake Thomas- Named after the man who organized the surveying team, who was called ‘Wild Horse Charlie’ by locals.  Other lakes named after surveyor’s in the chain lake system include: Kauffman, Sherry, Frater, Porter, Nile and Leo after their grandfather Leo Sanders.

Directions

From Ione, WA: Take HWY 31 south for 4 miles to the Tiger Junction/HWY 20. Take a right on HWY 20 and proceed 4 miles until you get to the Nile Lake turn off/Forest Service RD 904530.
