Black Canyon West Trailhead

This trailhead is located near Wolf Mountain Lookout and provides access to the southwestern terminus of Black Canyon Trail (#820) within Black Canyon Wilderness.

General Information

Please fill out a Wilderness Registration Permit located in the box attached to the sign board and place it in the slot before beginning your hike.
This is a Day-Use only facility.  No overnight camping is permitted at trailheads or Sno-Parks on the Ochoco National Forest or Crooked River National Grassland.

This is a free facility.

Directions

From Paulina, Oregon:

Head east on Hwy 112 approximately 3.5 miles.

Turn left on to County Road 113 and continue for approximately 1.5 miles.

Turn right onto County Road 135 and continue for approximately 9 miles.

Turn right onto Forest Service Road 58 and continue for approximately 4 miles.

Turn left onto Forest Service Road 5840 and continue for approximately 11 miles.

Black Canyon West (Formerly Dusty Camp) Trailhead will be on your right.

NOTE: Forest Service Road 5840 beyond Mud Springs Campground is unsuitable for two-wheel drive vehicles when wet, and is not recommended for low clearance vehicles or trailers at any time.
