Cold Springs Guard Station

Cold Springs Guard Station is the perfect destination for visitors wanting the creature comforts of a home while in a rustic, natural setting. The multi-room cabin is comfortably equipped with two bathrooms, one featuring a tub and the other a shower, and both sporting flush toilets. The kitchen has a propane cook stove and a propane refrigerator, and is stocked with basic utensils and cleaning supplies. There are three bedrooms, complete with beds, and a living room. The lights, heat, and hot water are all propane operated. The cabin also has solar lights. Drinking water is available in the building. A picnic table and fire ring are available for outdoor dining and campfires.

  • Nearby Activities Include: Nature Viewing, Mountain Biking, Road Biking, Hiking, Fishing, and Hunting.
  • Availability: Cold Springs Guard Station is available for rent mid-May through mid-October, and MUST be reserved.  Once reservations are made a confirmation letter will be sent out from Recreation.gov and it will contain the door code to access the cabin for your stay.

Please remember that when you leave the rental cabin you are responsible for cleaning including: Bathroom (toilets, shower/bath, sink), Floors (sweep, mop, vacuum), Kitchen (dishes, counters, stove, and the refrigerator). Please bring sleeping bags/bedding, as well as a flashlight or lantern for emergencies, first aid kit, washcloths and towels, and dish soap. The nearest store is in Prineville or Mitchell.

Please contact the Ranger District prior to arriving at the cabin rental to check on any additional information regarding the condition of fire closures, roads, weather etc.

$90 per night, with a maximum of eight occupants.

Directions

From Prineville, Oregon:

Travel approximately 13 miles east on Highway 26.  

Turn right at the junction to Ochoco Ranger Station (County Road 123), and travel 8 miles to the junction of Forest Service Roads 22 and 42.

Stay right to merge onto Forest Service Road 42 and then travel approximately 19 more miles.

Just after crossing the North Fork of the Crooked River turn left onto Forest Service Road 30 and travel approximately 1.5 miles.

Turn right onto Forest Service Road 100 at the signs to Cold Springs Guard Station.  

Turn right again just as the road forks and proceed through the gate.

The route is easily accessible by car, with paved roads most of the way. The last 2 miles to the cabin are on a good dirt road.
