Tar Kiln Interpretive Site
Tar Kiln Interpretive Site, which also serves as a popular access point for backcountry camping, is located off Tunnel Ridge Road (#39) in the Red River Gorge. A short interpretive trail leads past historic features of a time when pine pitch was boiled into tar for use as waterproofing, lubricants and cleaners. The site has designated parking, visitor information, trash collection and a picnic table.
