Forest Order

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261 .55{b), {c) and {e), it is hereby ordered that the prohibitions herein after set forth apply to the below listed Trails and Areas within the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests. This closure is effective until December 31, 2026 or rescinded by an authorized Forest Official, whichever occurs first.

1.    Possessing or using a motorized vehicle on any designated hiking trail. (36 CFR 261.55(b))
2.    Possessing or using a bicycle, horse, saddle, pack or draft animal on any designated trail. (36 CFR 261.55(c))
3.    Shortcutting a switchback. (36 CFR 261.SS(e))

 

The following prohibitions apply to the following trails and areas:

  1. Ozark Highlands Trail and associated connector trails
  2. Wedington Hiking Trail- Lake Wedington Recreation Area - Illinois River
  3. Alum Cove National Recreation Trail - Entire Trail System within Alum Cove Recreation Area
  4. Mount Magazine Hiking Trail - Cove Lake Recreation Area - Entire Trail System within Mount Magazine Recreation Area
  5. Horsehead Lake Hiking Trail - Horsehead Lake Recreation Area
  6. North Sylamore Creek and associated connector trails
  7. St. Francis National Forest Unit­- All trails within this unit

 

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50( e ), the following persons are exempt from this order:

  1.  Any Persons Federal, with a State, permit or local specifically officer or authorizing member the of an otherwise organized prohibited rescue or act fire or fighting omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of official duty.
