Special Use Permit Applications

A special use authorization permits a specific requesting entity to conduct the stated action/activity in a specific location on Forest Service lands. To approve special uses on Forest Service lands, analysis, compliance, and a decision must be constructed within the guidelines of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  A State, local, or private activity may be subject to NEPA if Forest Service action, approval, or authorization is required. Federal regulations for special use projects can be found here.

Within 60 days of receipt of a proposal to use National Forest System lands, the requesting party will be notified of proponents of the suitability of the proposal and whether the Agency will give further consideration of the project. If the project proposal is accepted by the agency, it will begin the reviewal process which may take upwards of several months. To apply, contact a Forest Service office and request an application. You may also contact the East Zone Realty Specialist (Hector Office: 479-284-3150), West Zone Specialist (Clarksville Office: 479-754-2864) or the Supervisor's Office (Russellville: 479-964-7200) for assistance. NEPA status can be found on the Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) here.
