Broad-scale Monitoring Strategy
A Broad-scale Monitoring Strategy is an overarching strategy to help national forests plan monitoring programs and answer questions at a geographic scale broader than one plan area. Together, the results of this Forest Service strategy, coupled with a national forest’s plan monitoring program, meet the requirements of the 2012 Planning Rule (36 CFR 219.12).
The Southern Region released our Broad-scale Monitoring Strategy in 2016. This strategy offers regular reports on social, economic, and ecological trends for land managers to use in their planning and plan monitoring.
The following reports are currently available for the Broad-scale Monitoring Strategy and were published in 2020:
Socioeconomic Monitoring Evaluation Report
Climate Change Monitoring Evaluation Report
These reports are summarized, and results and recommendations are provided in the 2020 Five Year Report.
