Caywood Point
Caywood Point is the only part of the Finger Lakes National Forest bordering Seneca Lake. Fossenvue Trail is a gravel path descends through forest to an open area beside the lake with a gravel beach and panoramic views. Please be aware that the last portion of the trail can be quite steep.
General Information
Camp Fossenvue occupied the point from 1875-1908. It was a summer retreat for the area’s elites and progressives, especially suffragettes. Its sole remaining cabin, the “Queen’s Castle”, was dedicated to co-founder and “Queen of Fossenvue” Elizabeth Smith Miller. It can be viewed at the site, but not entered.
Caution: The Fossenvue Trail has a couple of sharp switchbacks combined with inclines of 20-30% the closer you get to Seneca Lake.
- No motorized vehicles
