Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Precipitation chemistry results after 1988 are accurate within the maximum control limits defined for each analyte in the laboratory quality control/quality assurance plan (1988, revised 2006), which is available through the full data publication download (\Supplements\TimberWatershedLab_ParsonsWV_QA_plan.pdf). The accuracy of the data prior to 1988 was not quantified.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
All data in this dataset have undergone quality assurance checks. Prior to 1988 laboratory results were compared across sites to identify measurement errors or possible contamination. Beginning in 1988 more rigorous checks were performed, including ion balance and calculated conductivity checks. Missing data (blank cells in the data) occur when sample volumes were not sufficient to complete all analyses.
Completeness_Report:
Overall, data completeness was 90.3 percent for weekly samples with sufficient volume for the full suite of analyses.
Lineage:
Methodology:
Methodology_Type: Field
Methodology_Description:
Open (bulk) precipitation samples are collected continuously. Sample collectors are changed weekly. From May through October, collectors consist of 8-inch-diameter high-density polyethylene funnels connected by looped Tygon tubing to high-density polyethylene sample bottles. High-density polyethylene buckets (12-liter) are used from November through April. These collectors are designed to minimize evaporation in summer and snow bridging in winter, respectively.
