Comments: Pistillate branch of cottonwood sprayed with crude oil April 21, 1915. Photo taken May 1, 1915. Note how turgescense of catkins has not been suddenly changed by [but] each catkin has slowly dried [???] and died and finally the entire catkin drops off. This is in marked contrast to the H2SO4 action on catkins.
