Heading north from the intersection of Highway 87 and FR 138, (Hay Meadow Trailhead) the Happy Jack passage of the Arizona Trail stretches across forests of ponderosa and pinyon pines and junipers with a drop down into Jacks Canyon for a couple miles. For opportunities to see pronghorn and elk, this passage takes you past stock ponds and springs, across rocky flats and finally works its way up to Allan Lake at Forest Highway 3.

Directions:Location: About 60 miles southeast of Flagstaff on paved and graveled Forest Roads and highways.
GPS (Map): 34°36'27.5"N 111°11'59.9"W
USGS Map(s): Blue Ridge Reservoir, Hay Lake, Turkey Mountain, Jaycox Mountain and Hutch Mountain.
Access: Drive 55 miles south of Flagstaff to Clints Well on Forest Highway 3 (Lake Mary Road), then 8.3 miles north on AZ 87 to FR 138 Turn east about 0.2 mile to the Hay Meadow trailhead.
