Stevens Nordic Center: US 2 five miles east of the summit, on south side of highway. Well marked snowshoe loop trails meander through beautiful northwest forest, stands of old growth and along scenic Mill Creek. Pick up a free map when purchasing your day pass. Five different loops are available with varying mileage.
Skyline Lake: Stevens Pass ski area lot on the north side of the highway is where the trek starts. Find a cat track heading uphill. Pass several cabins tucked in the trees and stay with the track. About one mile in and 900 ft up, you will pass a radio relay shed and the hard climbing ends with mountain views. Just below the heavy timber, head northwest then turn uphill in thinning forest to the snowy plain that is Skyline Lake (5000 ft) to view amazing vistas.
NOTE: WARM CURRENTS SOMETIMES MELT THE LAKE SURFACE ICE FROM UNDERNEATH. THE ROUTE TRAVELS UNDER EXTREMELY STEEP, OPEN SLOPES, WITH SOME AVALANCHE POTENTIAL.
