Equipment and Strategies to Enhance the Post-wildfire Establishment and Persistence of Great Basin Native Plants

Research Activities

Study Areas
	Glass Butte research site, Lake Co., OR is located within the Roundtop Butte Fire which burned in July of 2007.
	Mountain Home research site, Elmore Co., ID was part of the Northflat Fire that burned in July of 2007.
	Scooby research site, Box Elder Co., Utah was part of the Scooby Fire that burned Summer 2008.
	Saylor Creek research site, Owyhee Co., ID was part of the Black Butte Fire that burned Summer 2010.
Set Up
	Surveying equipment was used to set up the 80 plots at each site.
	Approximately 66 acres will exclude grazing with 13 different treatments replicated in 5 blocks. An additional 30 acres, with 3 treatments replicated in 5 blocks, will eventually be grazed.
Drills
	A traditional rangeland drill was utilized for half of the treatments.
	A minimum tillage drill was utilized on the other half.

Research
	Three different seeding rates for sagebrush were used; standard, 5X and 10X.
	Soil characteristics were examined.
	Sagebrush seed was spread in the winter for two of the treatments to simulate aerial seeding over snow.
