Ike™ 304

The ike is marketed as a rugged, hand-held, rapid data capture field tool that combines an electronic compass/inclinometer, laser range finder, mobile computer, digital camera and GPS in seamless integration.  The ike allows the user to quickly (with one button) capture and store a large amount of geospatial data (i.e., bearing, elevation, global position, date, time) of a site. This data is permanently attributed to a photo of the target site (including several views if desired) which can be annotated with user-added information.

features of ike 304

The GIS-based system allows subsequent data analysis and interpretation. The ike is the flagship product of the New Zealand Company, Surveylab, Ltd. (http://www.surveylab.co.nz/) which has a distributor in McLean, Virginia that also provides significant product technical support.

Specifications

The technical specifications of the ike can be reviewed at:

The Mobile (Pocket) Computer operates on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5™.  The device has a 64 MB RAM, 128 MB Flash ROM and a 1GB removable Storage Drive (SD) card.

GPS Camera

The latest version of the ike has a camera with 3.2 Mega pixel resolution.

Remote GPS

The 12-channel GPS unit has an accuracy to within 1 meter through differential (DGPS) post-processing.  Otherwise accuracy is within 5 meters.

Software

Data Capture Application software allows the user to capture information on a  Comma Separated Value (CSV) file of a geographic point using all of the features of the ike.  ArcPad is used as the mobile GIS field mapping application.

Ike Sync is a Desktop Synchronization Application which copies data from the ike onto a desktop computer and allows for DGPS corrections to data.
