GPS Performance Test

From late September 2006 to early late October 2006, Surveylab loaned SDTDC an ike 304 to allow the Missoula Technology & Development Center's (MTDC) Geological Position System Program to test the accuracy of the ike's GPS and laser range finder. (Note: During this same time period, SDTDC's ike 304 was on loan to the Osceola National Forest for beta testing.)

MTDC performed its routine GPS accuracy test at 3 locations: the Powell, Idaho GPS test course, the Lubrecht, Montana GPS test course, and at MTDC. The Powell GPS course is located on the Clearwater National Forest's Powell Ranger District about 55 miles southwest of Missoula. The area has a dense old growth cedar and spruce canopy. The Lubrecht GPS test course is at the Lubrecht Experimental Forest about 40 miles northwest of Missoula. It has light to medium canopy of lodgepole and ponderosa pine. At MTDC GPS reading were taken in the open sky.
