Graphic of an intersection on a roadway showing the appropriate placement of signs and flaggers for intermittent flagging operations at intersections.

The graphic is made up of a two-way roadway with an intersection. There is the same set of signs for each direction of travel along the road.

The sign furthest away from the intersection reads, "FIRE ACTIVITY AHEAD", the next sign reads, "BE PREPARED TO STOP", for the next sign there is an option of a sign with a graphic of a person and a flag or a sign that reads, "FIRE TRAFFIC ENTERING ROAD" this is to be used when flagger signs are covered or removed. After third sign, is a red flag graphic with the text "Flagger" indicating where the flagger stands. To determine the distance between each sign and the distance between the last sign and the flagger refer to table 1.

Between where the flagger stands and the intersection is an optional buffer space. To determine the distance of the buffer space refer to table 3.

The last sign is closest to the intersection. This sign reads, "INCIDENT BASE" and an arrow is used for directions. To determine the distance between the sign and the intersection refer to table 2.
