Scott Peedle—2011 Technical Engineer of the Year
Scott Peedle works at the supervisor's office in Cadillac, MI, as the transportation civil engineer for the Huron-Manistee National Forests. He is recognized for outstanding results in implementing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act projects, Great Lakes Restoration Initiative projects, storm recovery projects, aquatic organism passage projects, and for establishing relationships between the forests and various other public agencies.
Scott helped develop a technical proposal that brought the forests about $800,000 from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for work to be completed in fiscal year 2011. On the FHWA projects, he coordinated design contracts, obtained permits, and provided construction oversight and contract monitoring. From 2008 to 2011, Scott participated in various stages of 52 road-stream crossings totaling about $7.9 million. His work on these projects ranged from the planning and design stages through construction oversight. Scott serves as primary coordinator with the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division and the Michigan Department of Transportation for the forest highways program. The program funded a $3.5 million project in 2011 and is expected to fund another $3.2 million project in 2012. Scott's project management, technical skills, and innovative approaches have enabled him to develop an efficient and cost effective transportation system for the forests.
Scott received a bachelor's degree in surveying engineering from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI. His is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan and Arizona and a licensed professional surveyor in Michigan. From 1995 to 2008, Scott worked for a private engineering consultant in Michigan and Arizona. He began his career on a survey crew and worked his way up to the land development manager position. In 2008, Scott began his Forest Service career in his current position at the Huron-Manistee National Forests.
Scott and his wife Lisa have been married for 13 years. They have a daughter, Alyvia, 9, and a son, Carson, 7. Scott enjoys various outdoor activities, such as golfing, hunting, and fishing. He coaches youth hockey and is actively involved in a local youth hockey organization.
