Portrait of James Paul Statezny.James Paul Statezny—2011 Engineering Technician of the Year

Jamie Statezny is the transportation and roads manager at the Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands in southeastern Colorado and Kansas. Since 2006, he has been a team leader managing program work for the transportation group while also assisting the forest engineer with budget and planning. Some of his projects include aquatic habitat improvement, long-term stewardship program support, and work in the legacy roads and trails program. He developed and manages a high-quality geographic information system-based road maintenance plan for his unit.

Jamie was born and raised in Rhinelander, WI, located in the heart of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. While growing up, he dreamed of one day working for the Forest Service. After 3 years of college, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Persian Gulf War. It was in the Army that Jamie met his wife of 16 years, Brandy. Together they have 2 children: Hannah, 14, and Jonah, 11.

Jamie began his Government career with the Department of the Army in 2001 as a construction representative at Fort Carson, CO. After a year with the Department, he fulfilled his childhood dream by joining the Forest Service at the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, where he worked until 2006. The people at the Chequamegon-Nicolet were like family, and it was here that Jamie gained the knowledge and leadership skills he considers invaluable to his career.

Jamie enjoys spending time with his family at their 50-acre hobby farm. He also enjoys coaching and cheering for his children's sports activities.
