District Receipt of Seedlings

The district's responsibility begins with the receipt of the seedlings from the nursery. Personnel responsible for care and receipt of trees must have a basic understanding of tree quality standards. Trees are usually shipped to districts by contract haulers from Forest Service nurseries. However, seedlings may be obtained from contract growers who do their own shipping. Receipt of contract trees is handled under the auspices of Contract Administration. Directions on how the trees are to be received varies with the terms of the contract. Receipt procedures are provided by the Contracting Officer (CO) or the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Normally, these procedures are similar to those used by Forest Service nurseries.
