Types of Storage Units

Facilities for tree care vary tremendously among regions. For example, the Northern Region relies almost exclusively on modern state-of-the-art tree storage coolers designed especially for storing tree seedlings. The Southwestern (R3) and Intermountain (R4) Regions use snow caches as well as modern coolers. The Rocky Mountain Region (R2) relies primarily on short-term storage of container stock. They use various types of facilities for short-term cold storage. The guidelines that follow are based on the fundamental principles of tree storage. Emphasis is placed on using modern, state-of-the-art tree coolers.
