Steve Hattenbach, Forest Supervisor

Steve came to the San Juan National Forest in May, 2025. Prior to accepting this position, he was the Deputy Regional Forester in the Southwestern Region since May 2023. He served as the Forest Supervisor at the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands from 2018-2023, Director of Wildlife, Fish, Rare Plants, and Rangeland Management for the Southwestern Region from 2015-2016. From 2006 to 2015 he served as an attorney for the USDA Office of General Counsel in Albuquerque. He has a decade of legal experience prior to this including work for State and local governments and private practice. On the weekends you will find him somewhere on the National Forests with his three children, probably rock climbing, hunting, camping or hiking. 

Nicholas Mustoe, Dolores District Ranger

Nick is the District Ranger on the Dolores Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest where he works to care for the land and serve people. Nick has previously served as Deputy District Ranger on the Flagstaff Ranger District on the Coconino National Forest. Nick began his Forest Service career as a Forester on the Fishlake National Forest working on landscape scale aspen restoration. Nick has a passion for engaging with communities, telling the story of the Forest Service, and connecting people with their public lands. 

Nick Glidden, Columbine District Ranger

Nick is the Columbine District Ranger for the San Juan National Forest. Nick was previously the District Ranger on the Pine Valley Ranger District, Dixie National Forest in St. George, UT. Nick began his career with the Forest Service as a volunteer wilderness ranger on the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness before moving to southern Utah as a Student Career Experience Program recreation technician. Nick settled into the Dixie NF as the Recreation Program Manager where he served for almost 18 years before becoming the District Ranger on the Pine Valley Ranger District prior to coming to the San Juan in 2022.

Joshua Peck, Pagosa District Ranger

Josh Peck is the Pagosa District Ranger for the San Juan National Forest. Josh started his career as a seasonal timber marker on the Dolores Ranger District. He attended Colorado State University and graduated with a degree in Forestry. After graduation, he moved to the Black Hills National Forest where he worked as a Forester. Since then, he has worked as a Timber Management Administrator on the Brush Creek Hayden Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt and most recently as Deputy District Ranger on the Flagstaff District of the Coconino National Forest. He has worked as the Pagosa District Ranger since 2021.
