The Daniel Boone National Forest is home to lakes, rivers and streams where boating and swimming are enjoyed year round. 

Swimming is allowed in most of the forest waterways except in areas posted as closed for protection of wildlife species or around developed areas such as boat ramps and marinas. Visit the rules and regulations page for more information on areas closed to swimming.

You must comply with all regulations established  Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources concerning fishing, boating and waterway safety laws.

Commercial outfitters or guides and groups of 75 people or more must obtain a Special Use permit. Contact the District Ranger for more information.

Non-native plants and animals are invading our lakes and streams. These aquatic hitchhikers:

  • Ruin boat engines and jam equipment;
  • Harm game fish and native species;
  • Raise operating costs of water and power plants.
