Sumter National Forest rec area and office closures following Hurricane Helene

Alert

IMPORTANT information for visitors to the Sumter National Forest in South Carolina

In response to the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Helene, all recreation sites on the Sumter National Forest remain closed until hazardous conditions improve and assessments can be completed. The Sumter National Forest is simply not safe to visit at this time, and due to limited cell service, first responders may not be able to reach someone if injured. The public should remain away from the Sumter National Forest (which include the Andrew Pickens, Enoree and Long Cane Ranger Districts) for their own safety. Reservations made through Recreation.gov will be refunded automatically.

The Francis Marion & Sumter National Forests headquarters (803) 561-4000, as well as the Francis Marion Ranger District (843) 336-2200, are open for business.

We will reopen the Sumter National Forest recreation areas as conditions permit. Refunds for users who had reservations at our campgrounds affected by these closures will be authorized as soon as practicable. Thank you for your patience.
