Eligibility Requirements

Effective 11/11/2020

All cooperating agencies have agreed to expand the current interagency Military Pass to include both veterans and Gold Star Families. On November 11, 2020, the six participating agencies may begin issuing Military Passes to veterans and Gold Star Families.

For purposes of this program, a veteran is identified as an individual who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, and is able to present one of the following forms of identification when entering or using federal lands:

  1. Department of Defense Identification Card (CAC Card)
  2. Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
  3. Veteran ID Card
  4. Veterans designation on a state-issued U.S. driver’s license or identification card

Gold Star Families are next of kin of a member of the United States Armed Forces who lost his or her life in a “qualifying situation,” such as a war, an international terrorist attack, or a military operation outside of the United States while serving with the United States Armed Forces.

Gold Star Family members must download and print a voucher from NPS.gov.

After printing, the Gold Star Family member must read the Self-Certification statement on the voucher, check the box affirming they are eligible for the program, and both print and sign their name.  Upon arriving at the recreation site, Gold Star Family members must present the signed and checked voucher along with their photo ID at staffed sites, or leave the voucher face up on the vehicle dashboard at unstaffed sites.
