Fire Area Closures: Some National Forest System lands, roads, trails, and recreation sites near and within recent fire areas are closed to all forest activities.

Stage I Fire Restrictions Starting August 4, 2023: See the full order, including Exhibit A with the list of designated recreation sites where campfires are still allowed, here.
Campfire Permits are available online.
Burn Permits: Information about burning on private land (under state jurisdiction), including obtaining online burn permits.
Woodcutting: Information on woodcutting and obtaining a personal use firewood permit. It is the responsibility of the permittee to obtain the Woodcutting Status each day prior to cutting by calling 1-800-847-7766. Chainsaw use may be restricted or prohibited depending on daily fire restrictions.
Presolicitiation Started for Recreation Site Concessionaire: Own a business interested in operations and maintenance of approximately 40 recreation sites on the Plumas National Forest? Pre-solicitation has started for the Plumas National Forest recreation site concessionaire. This is the information phase before the prospectus is published later this fall, starting the proposal and application process. There will be a site tour for interested parties in late October, but RSVPs are required by October 2. See letter here for more information.

Feather Falls Recreation Area Closed
Extensive fire damage to the trail, campground, overlook, and surrounding area from the 2020 North Complex will take time to fix.
New Campground Reservation Opportunities and Some New Fee Sites
More campsites across the Plumas National Forest (Feather River Canyon, Bucks Lake, Lake Davis, and Lakes Basin recreation areas) will be available by reservation this year. Visitors can also expect to pay modest fees at additional recreation sites managed by Outdoors in Plumas, the concessionaire operating under permit to the Plumas National Forest.

Bald eaglet safety – temporary campground closure
Nesting bald eagles protected with a partial campground closure through July 15, 2021 in the vicinity of Little Grass Reservoir.
New Bucks Lake Wilderness/Pacific Crest Trail Kiosk
Hikers will see a new interpretive kiosk near the southern edge of the Bucks Lake Wilderness, showcasing the Pacific Crest Trail and the history of the Bucks Lake Wilderness.
