GUIDELINES / 1.0 Water Quality
1.17 Buffers and Grazing
Fencing riparian buffers from pastures is often necessary to protect water quality. Grazing has limited potential for nutrient removal from buffers (see 1.26) and may accelerate bank erosion. Short duration grazing may be allowed within some riparian buffers. Grazing should not occur when soil is wet, when plants are emerging or setting seed or when plant cover is limited or stressed by dry conditions.
