Alpine Tunnel Historic District

Alpine Tunnel is a National Historic Railroad District consisting of a two hundred foot wide right-of-way along ten mile stretch of the original Denver, South Park and Pacific rail bed, between the town site of Quartz and the Alpine Tunnel Station Complex. Historic features include rail bed, three water tanks, telegraph office, boarding house, engine house, coaling platform, turntable, associated out buildings, stone constructed retaining and crib walls, and a stone faced tunnel entrance.

Drive east on Forest Road #765 (Cumberland Pass Road) for 3 miles to Forest Road #839. Turn right on Forest Road #839 and drive 10 miles to the Alpine Tunnel Station Complex. (Note: visitors should exercise caution as they drive this narrow, mountain road - former narrow-gauge railroad grade)
