Ruby Anthracite #836
The Ruby Anthracite Trail #836 at the trailhead at the end of Forest Service Road 796, Trout Creek Road, and ends at an intersection with the Dark Canyon Trail #830. This trail lies within the Raggeds Wilderness as it slowly descends through aspen forest and past beaver ponds to the edge of the Ruby Anthracite Canyon. A series of switchbacks descend down into the canyon, use caution on this stretch. Upon reaching the canyon bottom, Ruby Anthracite Creek must be crossed. Look for a marker post on the other side of the creek showing the location of the trail. East of the creek the trail is somewhat difficult to follow so watch carefully for markers and cut logs. The trail climbs through aspen, brush, and parks to eventually intersect the Dark Canyon Trail above the Devil’s Stairway. The Ruby Anthracite Trail #836 does not receive much use so the tread is not well worn and is sometimes difficult to follow.
