Whitetail Campground

Located in the southeastern corner of the Bessey Ranger District on the Dismal River, this 10-site campground has a hand pump for water, nine horse corrals, picnic tables, fire rings, and modern vault toilets.  It is situated on the OHV trail system.  No electricity is available.

Campsites cannot be reserved.

General Information

Forest Road 277 has been closed for resource protection.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Livestock must be fed certified weed-free hay.  Livestock must be kept in the corrals; portable panels and electric fencing are not allowed.  Livestock are not allowed to be in campsites, except for saddling and unsaddling (no more than 30 minutes).  Please clean the corrals after use with the wheelbarrow provided and deposit manure in the bunk.

Overnight Use:
Single Site: $15/night.
Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount to Single Campsites ONLY.

Campsites are $15 dollars per night. Fee envelopes and a collection box are located near the entrance.  Please pay your fees within 30 minutes of selecting your site.

Dogs must be under the owner's control at all times.

Directions

From Highway 2, turn south into the forest.  After crossing the river, stay right on State Spur 86B.  Follow 86B to Forest Road 203 south (do not turn right at the first 203, take the left up the road).  Follow 203 south about 8 miles to Forest Road 224 east, then follow the signs to the campground.
