Nine Mile Picnic Site

The entrance is located just off of NM 536 near the nine mile marker. The gate is to the left as you wind up NM 536. It’s surrounded by aspen, spruce and fir trees with a mixture of level and hilly ground within the site. Inside the site there are paved roadways that are just right for a short walk.  In the fall, the aspens cast a golden hue over the entire area, which creates an alluring and tranquil feeling in which to decompress.

There are a variety of single, double, and group picnic sites. Sites are equipped with picnic tables and serving tables. There is no shelter, but there is plenty of shade provided by the trees.

Bear proof trash receptacles are provided. Bears frequent the area; use appropriate containers for food and garbage.

Please remember to take extra care to “Leave No Trace” when you visit your public lands.

Single picnic sites are first come, first served. One group picnic site is available for reservation. The standard day use amenity fee applies to this picnic ground. The standard day use amenity fee is $5 and can be purchased on Recreation.gov https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/74386. Each area can accommodate a small family group and have no covering. Tables and grills provided.

Please refer to the Sandia Mountain Trails map to plan your course.
