Cowles Ponds Fishing Site
Situated in the Pecos Canyon, the Cowles Ponds are next to the Wild and Scenic Pecos River and are surrounded by coniferous forests and grassy meadows.
Uses: Fishing.
Facilities: Vault toilet at adjacent trailhead and trash bins. NO WATER.
Special Instructions: There are 2 ponds, the larger one, which was dredged and deepened in 2011, is available to all anglers with a current New Mexico fishing license. The smaller pond is only open to those who are 12 years of age and under, and persons with disabilities. Both ponds hold Rainbow and Brown Trout. They are stocked regularly by the New Mexico Game and Fish. Please contact the NMDGF at the Pecos fish hatchery (505-757-6360) to find out when the next stocking might be or visit https://wildlife.dgf.nm.gov for a weekly stocking report and fishing regulations.

Fish Your National Forests: This site can be accessed by passenger car. Fish available include trout. Types of fishing available include shore and ADA-accessible fishing access.
