Winter Sports

In winter, the Boise National Forest offers snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing for great winter outings. Many of the snow trails are regularly groomed.

The Idaho City Ranger District for example, is great area for winter activity and only about a 2-hour drive from Boise.  There is cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and snowmobiling.

In the winter non-motorized trails are maintained and groomed by Idaho Parks and Recreation, while the Boise County Grooming 8A Idaho City program grooms the snowmobile trails. Grooming starts when there is at least 24” base of snow and grooming stops mid-March. Idaho Parks and Recreation Facebook page is updated regularly for trail conditions. There are snowshoe specific trails throughout the system.  No dogs are allowed on trails at this time.

Idaho Parks and Recreation - All information for Boise National Forest is located in Southern Idaho area. Areas are Banner Ridge Park N’ Ski, Gold Fork Park N’ Ski, Whoop-Um-Up Park N’ Ski. You must have a Park N’ Ski pass or Permit, if you do not have one you can be issued a citation and be fined.
