Silver Lake Dam Geotechnical Survey
Silver Lake Irrigation District proposes to use a tracked drill rig and a tracked excavator to perform geotechnical tests on the dam and borrow sites to determine potential actions and complete short-term repairs. A Minimum Requirements Analysis has helped determine that the following equipment (or similar) would be used: tracked CME-850 Drill Rig, Cat 312 Excavator, trash pump, and motorized equipment repair tools. The 3 pieces of equipment would be used for an estimated 3 days each. Forest Road 37-874 and 4.7 miles of former access route inside the Wilderness would be used to get to the dam. In addition to completing geotechnical testing of the dam and borrow sites, the concrete inlet structure would be stabilized and an existing piece of concrete that partially blocks the outlet pipe would be removed. The Forest Service is directed by law to facilitate a use that predates the 1964 Wilderness Act, to enforce permit conditions requiring dam maintenance, and to demonstrate compliance with the Wilderness Act.
