Scenic Drives
Visitors can take leisurely drives along winding roads, enjoying panoramic views of towering peaks and sprawling valleys.
Scenic Driving
Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) offers some fantastic scenic drives that showcase its stunning landscapes! Here are a few highlights you can enjoy behind the wheel:
The Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway is a standout—stretching 163 miles from Dubois to Pinedale, it winds through the forest with jaw-dropping views of mountains, rivers, and historic sites. National Geographic calls it “one of the finest drives in the Rockies,” and it’s easy to see why—think rolling meadows, rugged peaks, and chances to spot wildlife like elk or moose along the way.
Another gem is the Greys River Road, a 27-mile stretch in the Greys River Ranger District. It follows the river through a mix of forest and open valleys, passing the Tri Basin Divide—where water splits into three major watersheds. It’s a quieter drive, perfect for soaking in the scenery and finding dispersed camping spots.
For something closer to Jackson, the Gros Ventre Road takes you from Kelly into the forest, past red rock canyons and the Gros Ventre River. It leads to Lower Slide Lake, shaped by a massive landslide, with killer Teton views on the way back. It’s shorter but packed with color and history.
The Big Spring Scenic Backway near Kemmerer is also worth a spin—known for its Oregon Trail ties, it offers mountain vistas and wildlife sightings over a peaceful route.
All these drives are on forest land, with paved or well-maintained gravel roads (check conditions, though—some get rough or close seasonally). Grab a map from a ranger station or online to plan your route, and keep an eye out for bears or deer crossing! Whether you’re after a long haul or a quick jaunt, the BTNF’s got scenic drives that’ll make you want to roll the windows down and linger.
