East Fork Lost Creek NIDGS Habitat Improvement Project [27]

Mechanical treatments (approximately 571 acres of commercial, 139 acres of non-commercial thinning) and prescribed fire (approximately 710 acres) will restore northern Idaho ground squirrel (NIDGS) habitat and move forest structure and fire frequency toward historic stand conditions. These actions are consistent with, and will promote conservation and recovery plans for this threatened species developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Forest Service. These actions will move forested and non-forested lands in the project area from fire regime condition classes 2 and 3 towards a desired lower condition class. 1.5 miles of unauthorized roads (507781000, 507782000, and 509301000) and 1.1 miles of National Forest System (NFS) roads (50930 and 50778) will be decommissioned. Road 50778 will be relocated using existing roads 50834 (0.1 mile) and 508341000 (0.4 mile). Road 508341000 will be designated a NFS road.
