Goose Lake Area, New Meadows Ranger District
From McCall, travel five miles west on Highway 55. Turn right on Goose Lake Road/Forest Road #257 and proceed nine miles north. This area is typically snow-free from July to October.
At the heart of this area is Goose Lake. This “no-wake” lake allows for motorized use, and the boat ramp is located adjacent to the Grouse Campground. Several dispersed campsites are located along Goose Lake Road north of the Grouse Campground. These sites are first-come, first-served. Please remember to pack out your trash and leave these sites better than you found them.
Just north of Goose Lake, you can access the Granite Mountain trailhead. A short hike will take you to Twin Lakes (2.4 miles roundtrip; #361) or to Granite Mountain Lookout (5.5 miles roundtrip; #165).
A short distance east of New Meadows, is the turn off for the Last Chance Campground. From the campground, you can hike the popular Goose Creek Trail (5.5 miles roundtrip; #353), with views of the spectacular Goose Creek Falls. (Alternatively, you can access Goose Creek Falls Trail (#354) from the Gordon Titus parking lot off the Goose Lake Road.)
