Granite Mountain Trail #165
The Granite Mountain Trail is accessible from the east end of the trail at the Granite Mountain Trailhead, located off Goose Lake Road approximately 12.5 miles north of Highway 55. The trail begins with a bridge crossing, then makes its way through a large meadow before beginning to climb up towards Granite Mountain. This steep, rocky trail climbs just under 2,000’ in slightly more than two and a half miles, ascending to a fire lookout at 8,480'. The high point provides panoramic views west into the Little Salmon River drainage and east to Idaho's expansive central mountains. A spur trail just over 1/2 mile from the east trailhead provides a leisurely side trip to Twin Lakes. The Granite Mountain Trail is designated non-motorized.
The west side of the trail, between Forest Road 294 and Granite Mountain Lookout, is difficult to follow.
