Camping/Overnight Stay Restriction 19-24-05
On National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin, camping is only allowed in areas listed in Exhibit A of the Forest Order. Most National Forest campgrounds have a 14-day limit per calendar year and a limit of six people, per campsite. For more information about camping, visit Campgrounds in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Dispersed camping, also known as vehicle camping, is not permitted.

Camping/Overnight Stay Restriction
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to protect natural resources, the following act is prohibited within the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This Order is effective from June 28, 2024, through December 1, 2027.
Camping (overnight occupancy of National Forest System lands), except in the areas and for the durations described in Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(a) and (e).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organization rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
3. Persons occupying a Forest Service-managed recreation residence or lodge authorized for overnight occupancy.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions found in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
The Following locations are exempt from this Forest Order when occupied by the same individual for no more than 14 days in a calendar year in total:

1. Berkeley Camp
2. Camp Concord
3. Camp Richardson Resort and Campground
4. Camp Shelly
5. Fallen Leaf Campground
6. Meeks Bay Resort and Campgrounds
7. Within 300 feet of the McKinney-Rubicon Springs Road (Forest Road No. 14N34) from its intersection with the Off-Highway Vehicle Staging Area, then west to its intersection with the boundary of the Tahoe National Forest, except where the road is within ¼ mile of a campground, day use facility, parking area, paved roadway, or trailhead
8. Buck Lake
9. Kaspian Campground
10. Blackwood Canyon Campground
11. Within 300 feet of the Tahoe Rim Trail, except where the trail is within ¼ mile of a campground, day use facility, parking area, roadway, or trailhead.
12. Within 300 feet of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, from its intersection with the southern boundary of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, then north to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, except where the trail is within ¼ of a mile of a campground, day use facility, parking area, roadway, or trailhead.
