Black Mountain Lookout

Black Mountain Lookout is situated on the eastern edge of the Beckwourth Ranger District, 10 miles from Highway 395, near Milford, California. The lookout offers striking views of Honey Lake to the north, and Last Chance Creek to the south. Four people can fit in the cabin.  Camping space is available outside.  Maximum occupancy for the site is eight visitors.

General Information

Check in will be 2:00, check out 1:00 pm. Total of 8 people. No smoking. Bring your own water and bedding. Pets are allowed. Pack out your garbage. There is not a gate on the road, be aware you will receive other visitors to the lookout.

Black Mountain Lookout is situated on the eastern edge of the Beckwourth Ranger District, 10 miles from Highway 395, near Milford, California.

From Susanville go south on Hwy 395 to Milford. At Milford take County Road 336 and go up Milford Grade (a gravel road) past the Laughlin Work Center and Laughlin Campground and Forest Road 26N84. Just another .5 mile and turn left onto Forest Road 26N80B and climb to Black Mountain Lookout.

From Reno go north on Hwy 395 to Doyle. Turn onto County Road 331 and go up Doyle Grade(a gravel road) passing Meadowview Campground. Turn right onto county Road 101 toward Milford. Continue on the main forest roads (28N03 and 26N04) to Forest Road 26N70. Turn right and continue .1 mile to Forest Road 26N80 and climb to Black Mountain Lookout.
