Proposal seeks to restore access to forest system fire stations, campgrounds, monuments

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2024 – The San Bernardino National Forest is seeking comments from the public for a proposal to repair roads damaged from Tropical Storm Hilary by Oct. 17.

Tropical Storm Hilary caused damage to multiple roads throughout San Bernardino National Forest. Damage to the roads include culvert failures, sections of roads being washed away and complete road failures. As a result, there is limited access to many forest resources such as fire stations, campgrounds and monuments.

The following roads are a high priority for repair activities: 1N02 Coon Creek Jumpoff, 1N05 Fish Creek Meadows, 1N17 South Fork Campground, 1N39 Heart Bar Station and 3N31Y Upper Lytle Creek Divide.

If implemented, this project will enable forest staff to complete essential road repair that will re-open recreation sites and opportunities to the public.

Comments can be submitted electronically through the project web page at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=66989 by following the “Comment on Project” link on the right side of the page. This document and additional supporting information can also be found on this web page.
